Guilty feet have got no rhythm.

Okay, so it’s been awhile since I posted anything on Wednesday so you get a guilty fangirlish rambling about the power of music.

Well, the power of whispering carelessly, at any rate.

So my husband has been trying to get me to listen to this guy who does metal covers since he discovered him. Normally it’s the kind of thing I’d be into, but I was on a time crunch and he started with “Let It Go.”

I fucking hate that song with a never-ending passion.

So he tried “Everything is Awesome.” Except that no, Phineas, nothing is awesome. Everything is shit. Life is shit. And metal covers can suck my metaphorical dick.

Things are such shit that I haven’t been sleeping well. Either too much or too little and both end with headaches and general grumpiness. Sunday night, it was four A.M. before I fell asleep, so Monday morning the headaches and grumpiness were not generalized and were, instead, acute.

I called in.

And then I was thinking about Careless Whisper. You know, as you do. I mean, the song is basically perfect. Solid saxing and powerful lyrics. A modern masterpiece of pseudo-smooth jazz.

I thought about BTS covering it. Kim Taehyung used to sax, it could happen. Jin could sing. It would be magical.)

I remembered Amanda Palmer and the Grand Theft Orchestra covering it.

(the actual performance I was at)

I remembered seeing it live. I remembered that it the day I was introduced to Walter Sickert and the Army of Broken Toys. Through them I was introduced to Bent Knee, The Men That Will Not Be Blamed for Nothing, Frenchy and the Punk, and more. I reconnected with a friend from my square days.

The song is magical, I’m telling you.

Then I stumbled back into bed (because I was in the bathroom while thinking. AS YOU DO.) and hubs came back from smoking with one last ditch effort to get me to listen to Metal Man.

And his cover of Careless Whisper.

And, okay… I was wrong. The guy’s got talent. I still couldn’t care less about everything being awesome and I’m desperately trying to let it go… but anyone who can Whisper this Carelessly gets a gold star in my book.

Because “guilty feet have got no rhythm” is one of the best lines written in the past thirty years.

Fight me.

And on that note…
